Extend the Life of Your Bar of Soap

Barnes Made soap is a delightful addition to your self-care routine, and it's worth taking a few extra steps to prolong its life. By following these tips, you can give your favorite soap a long and happy life! In addition, you'll be contributing to a more sustainable approach to personal care by making the most of each bar of soap, thus reducing waste.

Keep It Dry

One of the most important factors in extending the life of your soap is keeping it dry between uses. Handcrafted soap lacks the chemical hardeners found in commercial soaps, which means it can dissolve faster if left sitting in a puddle of water.

To prevent this:

  • Invest in a soap dish with good drainage. Choose a dish with raised ridges or slots to allow excess water to drain away from your soap.

  • Keep your soap out of direct water streams in the shower. Placing it on a shelf or soap dish away from the direct spray will help it stay dry.

  • Make sure bars of soap dry out as much as they can between uses.

Rotate Bars

If you have several bars of artian soap, try rotating them! This will allow each bar to dry out fully between uses, ensuring you get the most life out of all your bars.

Store Extra Bars Properly

If you have multiple bars and plan to store some for later use, keep them in a cool, dry place. It's best to store them in a dark, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Using a drawer, cabinet, or linen closet is ideal.

Avoid leaving your soap exposed to harsh elements like freezing temperatures or extreme heat. Extreme conditions can cause your soap to break down, lose its fragrance, or become brittle.

Use It or Lose It

If you have a surplus of handmade soap, don't stare longingly at it for too long. In addition to depriving yourself of glorious skincare, you’re letting those delicious scent molecules evaporate into the air. While handmade soap can be stored for months, its scent and good looks may diminish past the six month mark. So, consider using it within a reasonable timeframe. We know they’re pretty, but you deserve to use pretty things!
